Each of us wants to feel special. We want to be chosen. We want to be known. Unfortunately, in our effort to feel special, we often use external criteria to ascribe value and worth to ourselves. Those criteria may be rooted in false narratives, outward appearances, or the standards others create for us. In the end, we can feel inadequate, marginalized, dismissed, and unknown.

Have you ever sensed God charging you to do something that was big and overwhelming?  He stirs a huge vision in your heart or fills you with a plan for something great. In those moments, you often need courage to trust that where God wants to send you is better than where you are. You might think to yourself, “Uhh…not me Lord. I’m not ready. What if I fail? Or worse, yet, what if I’m the wrong one?” You want to embrace the bigness of what God is doing, but you’re overwhelmed with what it might mean and what it might cost you. Consequently, you end up choosing the little.

Embrace the Value of Meaningful Self-Talk

On the journey…
I learned the value of meaningful self-talk. Along the way, a friend who navigated her own marriage challenges, commented that she perceived me as very composed during the trial. I was quick to share with her it was God‘s grace that helped me weather all of the storms associated with the journey–doubt,, grief, disappointment, hurt,  guilt, and shame.
