Each of us wants to feel special. We want to be chosen. We want to be known. Unfortunately, in our effort to feel special, we often use external criteria to ascribe value and worth to ourselves. Those criteria may be rooted in false narratives, outward appearances, or the standards others create for us. In the end, we can feel inadequate, marginalized, dismissed, and unknown.
Have you ever sensed God charging you to do something that was big and overwhelming? He stirs a huge vision in your heart or fills you with a plan for something great. In those moments, you often need courage to trust that where God wants to send you is better than where you are. You might think to yourself, “Uhh…not me Lord. I’m not ready. What if I fail? Or worse, yet, what if I’m the wrong one?” You want to embrace the bigness of what God is doing, but you’re overwhelmed with what it might mean and what it might cost you. Consequently, you end up choosing the little.
On the journey…
I learned the value of meaningful self-talk. Along the way, a friend who navigated her own marriage challenges, commented that she perceived me as very composed during the trial. I was quick to share with her it was God‘s grace that helped me weather all of the storms associated with the journey–doubt,, grief, disappointment, hurt, guilt, and shame.
You honor me God with Your holy life. You pour life into me daily…. You give strength when I’m unaware I feel weak. You’ve brought renewal to my dead places.
You O Lord have kept me in amazing ways. You have sustained me and surrounded me with a faithful stream of unconditional love. You have guided me with wisdom and truth.
Wounds need time to heal. Scars disappear over time—or they don’t. Whether they do or not, God has made you beautiful. Your wounds don’t turn God off. He knows why they are there, and He is committed to causing them to work together for your good.
Open God’s Word and allow yourself adequate time to sit at His feet. Listen to Him speak to you. Busyness, distractions, and the Devil himself will pull out all of the stops to get in your way. Frankly, you won’t luck up on this–you will need to be intentional about this process.
